Photomosaic Maker is run by Goldilocks, K.K. ("we"), doing business as Photomosaic Studio™. This page explains what happens to your photos and information when you use photomosaic-maker.com.
The short version
- Your photos are used only to make your mosaic. We don't sell them, show them to anyone you didn't share a link with, or use them to train AI.
- The photos you upload are deleted once your mosaic is made, and automatically within 2 days if you stop partway.
- We look for faces only so that crops don't cut through them. We don't identify people and we don't keep any face data.
What we collect
- Photos you choose. Your phone or computer shrinks them before sending (the main photo to 2,400 pixels on its long side, the others to 640 pixels).
- A coded version of your IP address (a one-way hash), used only to limit how many mosaics one visitor can start per day.
- A check that you're a person, not a bot, run by Cloudflare Turnstile when you start a mosaic.
- If you buy: your email address, and for prints your name and shipping address. Card details go straight to our payment processor (Stripe); we never see or store them.
How we use your photos
To make the mosaic, our computer finds where the faces are in each photo, crops each photo into squares, and chooses which square goes where by color. Face finding gives only the position of a face in that one photo; it does not identify who anyone is, does not compare faces across photos or people, and no face measurements are stored.
What we keep, and for how long
- Uploaded photos: deleted when your mosaic is ready; automatically deleted within 2 days if a mosaic is never finished.
- Your mosaic (the preview-size, watermarked version and its share link): kept for [PERIOD] so your link keeps working, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
- What the HD file and prints need (the placement of each square, small 128-pixel crops of the photos used, and your main photo): kept for [PERIOD] so you can buy the HD file or a print later, then deleted.
- Orders: kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Who else handles your information
- Cloudflare (United States and worldwide): hosting, storage and the bot check.
- Our own computers in Japan: making the mosaic. Your photos travel there encrypted and are deleted as described above.
- Stripe: payments.
- Gelato: printing and shipping prints. We send them the print file and your shipping details.
We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Share links
Anyone who has the link to your mosaic can see it. Share links are not listed in search engines. You can ask us to delete a mosaic at any time.
Children
Photomosaic Maker is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Parents are welcome to make mosaics from family photos, including photos of their children.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to delete it, or to correct it, by writing to the address below. If you live in California or another state with a privacy law, you have these rights under that law, and we won't treat you differently for using them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters for how your photos are used, we'll say so on the site first.
